At The July, we value your privacy and ensure that your personal data is processed and protected with care. In this privacy statement, we explain which data we collect, why we do so, with whom we share it, and what your rights are.

This privacy statement applies to the use of our online services, namely our website (www.thejuly.com), our booking tool (app.mews.com), and our digital communication with you, as well as our offline interactions, such as your visit to one of our locations and our telephone contact.

Personal data we collect

We may process the following data:

  • Website and booking tool visits: Click behavior, preferences, device and browser information, partly derived from cookies. Until you accept the use of cookies, we will not place non-anonymized analytical cookies and/or tracking cookies.
  • Contact form: Your name, email address, phone number, and your request to us.
  • Commercial emails: Your name, email address, and personal preferences.
  • Bookings: Gender, name, address, email address, phone number, nationality, type and number of identification document, reservation details, stay dates, personal preferences, credit card details (name and last 4 digits), and payment details (via a secure provider). This data may also come from third parties (e.g., Booking.com, travel agencies, or employers).
  • Hotel visits: Security camera footage in public areas and information regarding your preferences derived from the services used.
  • B2B contacts: Name, business phone number, and email address.
  • Applicants: Name, email address, phone number, CV, photo (if shared), and motivation letter.

Note: Upon arrival at our accommodation, we may ask to inspect your ID for identification purposes; however, we do not make or store a copy of it. We do not process sensitive data (such as health), unless you explicitly provide this information yourself.

Purposes for which we collect your data

We use your data to maintain contact, provide services, and ensure the safety and security of our guests, employees, and property.

1. Managing bookings

Processing and modifying booking requests, sending confirmations/reminders, and managing payments.

  • Legal basis: Performance of a contract.

2. Stay registration

Name, date of birth, nationality, type and number of identification document, arrival and departure dates.

  • Legal basis: Legal obligation (local regulations).

3. Sending commercial emails

Personalized offers regarding our services and brands. You can unsubscribe at any time.

  • Legal basis: Your consent.

4. Personalization, fraud prevention, and security

Managing guest profiles (preferences/allergies) for better service and marketing optimization. Verifying credit card names at check-in and using security cameras in public areas.

  • Legal basis: Legitimate interest.

5. Retargeting advertisements

Advertisements via platforms such as Meta based on your website interaction.

  • Legal basis: Your consent.

Retention periods

We do not store data longer than necessary:

  • Tax retention obligation: Financial data up to 7 years.
  • Camera footage: Maximum of 4 weeks (unless required for a police investigation).
  • Application data: Maximum of 4 weeks after the procedure ends (or 1 year with your consent).

Third parties

Data is only shared if necessary for service delivery (e.g., booking platforms, payment providers, IT/Cloud services like the PMS, or government authorities if legally required). We sign processing agreements with third-party processors to guarantee data security. For partners outside the EEA, we ensure protection via EU standard contractual clauses or an adequacy decision.

Your rights

Under the GDPR (and UK GDPR), you have the right to:

  • Access, rectification, or erasure.
  • Restriction of or objection to processing.
  • Data portability.
  • Withdrawal of consent.

If you have complaints, please contact us or the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens) or the ICO in the UK (www.ico.org.uk).

Automated decision-making and profiling

We do not make decisions based solely on automated processing that have legal consequences. We do use profiling for personalized service and marketing.

We use cookies for functional, analytical, and marketing purposes. Manage your preferences via our cookie banner.

Security of personal data

We use technical and organizational measures such as encryption (SSL), access restrictions, and backups. In the event of a data breach, we follow the mandatory reporting procedure.
